Sowing Tears, Reaping Joy: The Bible and Brahms’ Requiem

Author: Carol Bechtel Reynolds April 19, 2015

Celebrate Brahms’ choral masterwork while simultaneously exploring grief, death, and the resurrection hope within a Biblical context.  This seven-session study focuses on texts used in the Requiem but also provides supplementary Bible selections, discussion questions, and prayers. Listening together to such music while pondering Scripture during any season but especially Lent might help us to hear, as Nick Wolterstorff says, “the heart that speaks” in loss and pain (Leader Guide, 14). The study is available with Leader Guide and Resource Book from Kerygma. The seven chapters are entitled: Blessed Mourners, Fading Flowers, We Have To Be Carefully Taught, A Glimpse of Glory, A Mother’s Comfort, Our Heart’s True Home, The Last Word.
